Magnitech located in Naperville, IL, hosted local brownies troops at their HQ office to earn their Computer Expert Badges.
On Monday, November 12th, Magnitech Solutions welcomed 28 Girl Scout Brownies into our office to earn their Computer Expert Badge. We planned stations where brownies would complete computer and IT related tasks in order to earn their badge. Our goal was to support the community while also promoting the opportunity that girls have in technology. The brownies were challenged to put a computer together, install software, connect a printer, and send an email to their parents (all with help from the Magnitech Team, of course). This was the first event that we hosted of this kind, so we were unsure of what to expect. Below are the takeaways of what we learned.
First of all, these brownies know what they are doing. Putting a computer together is no small feat. We were so impressed by the girls’ willingness to learn and fearlessness to jump right in. With the help from our team, the girls embraced the new technology and pieced together a computer right in front of our eyes. Talk about girl power!
Second, this was the first time any of the girls had sent an email, ever. These girls can navigate any iPhone, iPad or Chromebook, but sending an email was not in their technological toolbox yet. Our team was excited to be present and teach them how to send an email.
We were honored to welcome these girls into our office. IT is an industry that has been stereotypically male dominated for a long time. There is a world of opportunity available to these girls, and we hope that the event at the Magnitech office sparked an interest for these girls to continue to pursue and learn about technology.
